Privacy Policy
Effective 18 September 2026 · Last updated 6 October 2026
1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how Comparability Pty Ltd (ACN 654 356 626 / ABN 75 654 356 626), operating under the registered business name “Restatus” (“Restatus”, “we”, “us”, “our”), collects, uses, holds, discloses and protects your personal information.
Restatus operates the website and web application at https://restatus.com.au and related services (the “Platform”), where members forecast what listed properties will sell for and keep private notes on properties they follow.
We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). You can reach our Privacy Officer at privacy@restatus.com.au.
2. What this policy covers
This policy covers personal information we collect about:
- Members — people who create an account and use the Platform; and
- Visitors — people who browse the Platform without an account.
“Personal information” means information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, as defined in the Privacy Act.
3. The personal information we collect
Depending on how you use the Platform, we may collect:
a. Account information
- Your email address and a password (your password is stored and managed by our authentication provider in hashed form; we never see or store your plain-text password).
- A handle that is your public identity on the Platform. We generate a pseudonymous one for you automatically (for example, “swift-ibis-482”), and you can change it to a username of your choosing. We never publish your real name or email, but if you choose a username that includes your name or other identifying details, that choice may reveal your identity to others.
- Your verification status (whether your account has been marked as verified).
b. Content you submit — Predictions
- The property you are forecasting, your predicted price and confidence band, and optionally the listed price guide you saw and the date you saw it.
- We do not provide any free-text commentary field on the public parts of the Platform, and we do not ask for or accept the name of any vendor, purchaser, occupant or other individual. Please do not attempt to include names or other personal details of third parties in any field.
c. Reputation, prediction and activity data
- Scores and metrics we calculate about the accuracy of your predictions over time (accuracy scores, prediction scores, rankings and related statistics), and records of your activity on the Platform.
d. Technical and usage information
- When you access the Platform we automatically collect information such as your IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, and access times, including through cookies and similar technologies (see section 8).
e. Communications
- If you contact us (including a correction or takedown request) or join a waitlist for an upcoming feature, we collect the information you give us, such as your email address.
f. Private property tracker (your notes)
- If you use the property tracker, we store the properties you choose to track and the private timeline entries you add against them — the type of entry (a price guide, an offer, your own estimate, or a sale price), an optional source (for example a listing portal, or word of mouth from an agent or vendor), the amount, the date the entry relates to, and any short note you write.
- These entries are private to you. They are visible only to you; they are never published, shared with other members, or shown on any public page, and are never used in our crowd estimates, rankings, reputation scores, or accuracy reconciliation. You can edit or delete any entry, and stop tracking a property (which deletes it and all its notes) at any time.
- Some information you record here, such as a price you were told by an agent or vendor, may be information about a third party. We hold it on your behalf, as your private record; we do not publish it, disclose it to others, or use it for any other purpose.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive information (as defined in the Privacy Act). Please do not include sensitive information in your submissions or messages.
4. How we collect personal information
- directly from you, when you create an account, submit predictions, use the tracker, or contact us;
- automatically, through your use of the Platform (technical and usage data and cookies); and
- from third parties, for example standardised address details returned by our address-lookup provider when you search for a property (this relates to the property, not to you).
Where reasonable and practicable, we collect personal information directly from you.
5. Why we collect, hold and use personal information
We use personal information to:
- create and administer your account and authenticate you;
- operate the core service — accept your predictions, score them against confirmed sale prices, and calculate reputation and rankings;
- provide the private property tracker — store and show you the notes and price timelines you record against properties you follow, visible only to you (see section 3f);
- display public information (your handle, your accuracy statistics and rankings, and aggregated, area-level activity) as described in section 6;
- maintain the security and integrity of the Platform, prevent fraud, collusion and misuse, and enforce our terms;
- handle complaints, corrections and takedown requests (section 11);
- communicate with you about your account and the service; and
- comply with our legal obligations and improve the Platform.
We will only use or disclose your personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, a directly related secondary purpose you would reasonably expect, or as otherwise permitted by law or with your consent.
6. What is shown publicly
- Your real name and email are never published. Your public identity is your handle: a pseudonym by default, or a username you choose (which may reveal your identity if you pick one that identifies you).
- Publicly visible information is limited to your handle (a pseudonym by default, or a username you choose), your accuracy and reputation statistics and rankings, aggregated crowd prediction figures for a listed property (such as the number of predictions and their average and range), and area-level (for example suburb-level) activity. It never includes your real name or email.
- A property page may show the address of a currently listed property (already public on listing portals) alongside those aggregated crowd predictions. We never show a member’s individual prediction tied to their real identity, and we do not publish a confirmed sale price against an address on public pages.
- We do not collect or publish the names of vendors, purchasers, occupants or other individuals, and there is no free-text commentary feature.
- A crowd-reporting feature for sale prices is not yet available. Before it launches, this policy will be updated to describe how reported prices are shared.
- Your private tracker notes are never part of any public, aggregated or logged-out surface (section 3f).
7. Disclosure of personal information
We do not sell your personal information. We disclose personal information to:
a. Service providers who process data on our behalf
Under contract and only to provide their services to us, including:
- Supabase — database, authentication and secure storage (hosted in Sydney, Australia);
- Vercel — application hosting and delivery;
- Geoscape — address lookup and verification (we send the address text you type; this returns standardised address details);
- any email, error-monitoring or analytics providers we may engage.
b. Others where required or authorised by law
To enforce our terms, to protect the rights, property or safety of Restatus, our members or the public, or in connection with a sale or restructure of our business.
c. Partners you ask us to connect you with
Opting in to marketing emails (see section 12) does not, by itself, share your details with anyone — it only lets us email you. We share your contact details with a partner (for example a financial services provider or a real estate service) only when you specifically ask us to, such as by submitting an enquiry to be contacted about a home loan or another service. At that point we tell you who your information will go to and why, and we ask for your explicit consent before sharing it, limited to that purpose.
8. Overseas disclosure
Some service providers may store or process information on servers outside Australia (for example, application hosting and content delivery may involve servers in the United States and other countries). Where we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the APPs. Our primary database and authentication provider stores data in Sydney, Australia.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your session, secure the Platform, and understand usage. Some cookies are essential for the Platform to function (such as authentication). You can control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling essential cookies may prevent parts of the Platform from working.
10. How we hold and protect your information
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure, including access controls, row-level security on our database, encryption in transit, and restricting access to authorised personnel.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach likely to result in serious harm, we will comply with the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme under the Privacy Act.
11. Accessing, correcting and removing your information
You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you and to ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or misleading.
We also provide an accessible complaints, correction and takedown process for anyone, member or not, who believes information on the Platform is inaccurate, identifies them or another person, or should otherwise be removed. Contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@restatus.com.au. We will acknowledge your request and take reasonable steps to review and, where appropriate, remove or correct the information promptly.
You can also access and update some information directly in your account. We will respond within a reasonable period and may need to verify your identity first. We do not usually charge for access requests, but may charge a reasonable cost for certain requests as permitted by law.
12. Communications and marketing
We may send you service-related messages you cannot opt out of while you hold an account (for example, about your account, security, or a feature you asked to be notified about).
Separately, you can opt in to marketing emails from Restatus with product updates, market insights, and offers from our partners (such as financial services providers and real estate services). This opt-in is a single consent covering all of those email types, and it governs only the emails we send you — it does not by itself share your details with any partner (see section 7c). You can give or withdraw it when you sign up, when you join a waitlist, or at any time in your account settings, and every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. We handle all of this in accordance with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
13. Children
The Platform is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
14. Complaints
If you have a concern or complaint about how we have handled your personal information, please contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@restatus.com.au. We will acknowledge, investigate and respond within a reasonable period.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC): www.oaic.gov.au · 1300 363 992 · GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on the Platform, and we will update the “Last updated” date. Significant changes will be notified to members where appropriate.
